Young Dancer magazine

The monthly magazine was aimed at children and young teenagers with an interest in dancing. The largest proportion of readers were girls.

It was an exciting project, graphically, as all the articles had to be presented in a lively, yet clear way, and each needed to have its own style. Many of the photographs were supplied by professional photographers, and much of the layout involved fitting text around or into already beautiful images. Often, the challenges were to make those photos taken by amateurs match the quality of the professionals, and to avoid repeating design ideas.

Working in association with Talking Pictures, a North Devon-based graphic design studio, Julian Tewkesbury was sole designer on the magazine for three years.
